They play for the cheerleaders. They play for the basketball team. They play for kicks and giggles. They are the Pep Band, and they play for Spotsy!

Pep Band is the band that plays for the basketball team and the winter cheerleaders. Most members of Pep Band come from marching band members who want to go that extra mile for the school. Others are found and recruited by the manager of Pep Band, Ms. Jamie “Tiki” Smith. And still others just don’t have time to play in the Marching Band, but – in the slower winter months – Pep Band presents the opportunity to dump the football for a flute, pom pom’s for a piccolo, or field hockey stick for drum sticks.

Pep Band member Junior Joe Glasgow said “Pep Band being during the winter season is great! Nothing goes on during this season, so it’s easy to show up to every game we play at.”

Pep Band is also a chance for students who stay after for other activities to come and spend time with fellow students. Senior Billy Davis said “I love it when Ms. Smith stays after with Pep Band, because when I’m done with Tennis I can go see my girlfriend!”

Pep Band is many things, but if there is one thing that it can stand for, it’s a group that allows students to develop bonds of friendship by doing what they love, which is making awesome music, together. Now THAT is keeping it peppy.
