The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards opened with a wild performance by Lady Gaga, who was soon accompanied by Elton John. Stephen Colbert followed up the performance with a sarcastic speech to get things going.
Beyoncé was the first award recipient and ended up winning the most awards of the evening. She won Song of the Year for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It);” Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; Best Female R&B Vocal Performance; Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance; Best R&B Song; and Best Contemporary R&B Album.
The GRAMMY for Best Country Album was presented to Taylor Swift for Fearless. She also won Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Song, and Best Country Album. Zac Brown Band had the honor of accepting the GRAMMY to the Best New Artist. Kings of Leon received Record of the Year for “Use Somebody.” The GRAMMY for Best Rock Album was presented to Green Day for 21st Century Breakdown.
Beyoncé then took the stage to put on a crowd-roaring performance with her very own SWAT team. She sang a combination of “If I Were a Boy” and Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.”
Following Beyoncé, came P!nk singing “Glitter in the Air,” while literally in the air with a crew of acrobats to further accessorize her talent. Black Eyed Peas performed a mix of “Imma Be” and “I Gotta Feeling.” A few opera singers began to perform, and surprisingly one of them turned out to be Jamie Foxx who continued the show with his hit, “Blame It” with help from T-Pain, Doug E. Fresh, and Slash.
Taylor Swift then performed “Today Was a Fairytale,” a hit from her new movie, Valentine’s Day. Following this, Stevie Nicks joined her on stage as they sang a duo of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” and Swift’s “You Belong with Me.” Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, and Carrie Underwood all teamed up to sing “The Earth Song” as a tribute to Michael Jackson. Bon Jovi sang an assortment of songs, including the winning choice of “Livin’ on a Prayer,” thanks to the fans.
The GRAMMY for Album of the Year went to Taylor Swift for Fearless, breaking the record of youngest artist to receive the award, and ending the evening for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards.
