Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborate in their new album “Watch The Throne.” Some said the album wasn’t what they were expecting. This twelve track album is filled with their viewpoints on African American success, their current lives, and future expectations.
Jay-Z, unlike most rappers in 2011, contributes meaningful ideas to his work, while other rappers write about sex, drugs, and money. He writes about not letting the past repeat itself and not letting anyone stop him in his path to success.
Kanye instills creativity into his work with unique beats to back up his lyrics. Some of his past work hasn’t been the greatest, but he has other songs that have put me in shock.
Together these two were expected to achieve above greatness. Both are very great rappers who relate to their fans. They focus on different topics in every song, which keeps fans interested. Here is a list of the tracks on their album and its review.
1.”No Church in the Wild” featuring Frank Ocean – these lyrics are very well written, and the rhythm is breathtaking. This was a great song to start the album off with.
2.”Lift Off” featuring Beyonce – Jay-Z’s very successful wife has jumped in on this track. She sings “We gon’ take it to the moon, take it to the stars. How many people you know, have made it this far “referring to how far herself, Jay-Z and Kanye have gone in their careers.
4.”Otis” featuring Otis Redding – Talks about the fantastic lifestyle they have adopted. Jay-Z jokes about calling the paparazzi on himself because of how “fresh” he is.
5.”Gotta Have It” – Jay and Kanye rap back and forth. This makes the rappers climb higher to the top as they basically cheer each other on as they’re rapping.
6.”New Day” – Both rappers talk about the life they want for their unborn sons and how hard it will be to overcome their lifestyles.
8.”Welcome to the jungle” featuring Swizz Beats – Jay and Kanye talk about how hard it is being a celebrity and how hard their lives were before becoming famous.
9.”Who Gon’ Stop Me” – This music is not the normal type of background for rappers, but it goes very well with their lyrics. In the end, this song was a success.
10.” Murder To Excellence” – Kanye and Jay rap about black-on-black crime and African American success and culture.
11.”Made In America” featuring Frank Ocean – Kanye’s lyrics are about things that have happened in the past ten years. Jay focuses on his life while he was growing up.
12.”Why I Love You” – Jay and Kanye rap about the people who turned their backs on them in life.
This CD is definitely worth your time. “The Throne” is definitely something to watch. This CD is terrific and will make history, combining some of the most popular rap artists of the new millennium.
