Have you ever found something in life that you just love to do? For our teacher of the month, Mr. Pomerleau, his calling is music.

Now our band director here at Spotsylvania High School, Mr. Pomerleau, has been teaching since 1972. He began his teaching career at the Armed Forces School of Music. Retiring from the Navy, he then decided to pursue a career in our fortunate public school system.

Teaching at Spotsylvania High for eleven years now, Mr. Pomerleau, known to many students as Mr. P, began playing the trumpet at age eight, and music has never left him. A very passionate and considerate person, Mr. Pomerleau is a very intriguing individual.

“I am a product of loving parents and giving teachers, growing up in a free society that has set no limits on what I can accomplish.  I have had the opportunity to do in life all that I have set out to do.  I wish the same for all American citizens,” Mr. Pomerleau stated.

As many students know, most teachers choose to teach because of the joy and impact on the students they will have, and the knowledge they can instill in them.

Mr. Pomerleau teaches his students to “pass on his passion for music to future generations.”

One of his students, Haley Cordle, is taking his Advanced Placement Music Theory class this year and has said,
“Mr. Pomerleau has taught me to see things from a different perspective.”

Teaching is not always about getting through the curriculum in time, it is about the impact on many lives, and the lessons taught and the lessons learned.

“Seeing the joy in a student’s eyes when they accomplish something that they couldn’t do before,” as Mr. Pomerleau has said, is his biggest joy in teaching.

All of us at Spotsylvania High School hope that Mr. Pomerleau will stay with our big family and continue to teach. Congratulations on achieving Teacher of the Month.
