As you are walking through the halls of Spotsy High, you see many smiling faces of the teachers, but one teacher that happens to stick out is Ms. Cassiday. With her pearly white, perfect smile and her outfits that out-do themselves every day, she’s someone that just looks to be inspiring.
Ms. Cassiday has been teaching a total of eight years. When asked what inspired her to be a teacher she said, “I come from a family of teachers and it was simply in my blood. I like working with students and their families.”
Cassiday loves the family atmosphere at Spotsy High. She said, “I have the privilege of working with the siblings of former students. I also teach with colleagues who have also become friends. This staff will simply go to extraordinary lengths to help each other.”
Cassiday loved reading as a child and she always enjoyed her English classes at Orange County High. When she was in college, her major was English. The college classes were always fun to her and full of discussions, which she loved.
She said, “Reading is something that we all use throughout our lives. By working with kids to become better readers, I am able to influence the rest of their lives.”
Ms. Cassiday’s earned her undergraduate degree from Emory and Henry College and then she later received her master’s degree from the University of Mary Washington.
When asked what advice she would give to students at Spotsy or those coming in the next years she said, “Always try your best in your classes. You are spending four years in high school; ultimately, those four years will shape the rest of your life. Do your best in high school to provide for yourself and your future family.”
Taking Ms. Cassiday’s advice would be the most intelligent thing that any high school student could do. It will prepare you for the four years you’ll be spending in high school.
