Relay for Life: walking to fight cancer

The Spotsylvania Relay for Life will start at Spotsylvania High School on April 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

Put on your walking shoes and get ready to support the fight against cancer in the first-ever Relay for Life sponsored by the Spotsylvania High School SCA.

Starting Friday, April 23, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. and continuing through the night until Saturday, April 24 at 6:00 a.m., the SCA is holding the fundraiser at Spotsy’s football field to help raise money for the American Caner Society.

SCA Advisor Mrs. Coffman said they SCA needs all the help and support they can get so the fundraiser can be successful.

“We need people to sign up,” said Coffman.

The SCA will also have a stage set up for entertainment and are looking for talented people interested in performing. The whole county is invited to this special and important event.

As of February 5, there are eight teams signed up to participate in the event: the BrainYaks with captain Dale Floyd; the Brock Road Bobcats with captain by Melinda Oliver; the Harrison Road Huskies with captain Cheryle Hodges; team Spotsy Rocks with captain Robyn Barber; Team Coffman with captain Michele Coffman; Team Cool School with captain Deborah Collins; Team MHS with captain Brooke Sullivan; and The Girlfriends with captain Barbara McCormick. Coffman is encouraging SHS student teams to challenge students from other high schools in their attempts to raise money for the worthy cause.
