Yes, I believe there is such a thing as too much snow (like being trapped in your house for weeks due to multiple feet of snow) – our storm…not so much. I enjoyed every minute of the “blizzard” of 2010. I love snow, always have, always will and I think it’s about time we got more than 3 inches. I’m not the biggest fan of going to school all week and I thought that having another winter break was a blessing. It gave me a chance to relax and enjoy some time off, considering that our next break isn’t until Spring and that’s a long two months away.
I love waking up in the morning, looking out the window and seeing what looks like a scene from The Christmas Story. Every year around Christmas, we get a total of maybe three pitiful inches of snow and a lot of rain; it’s just plain depressing. It is long overdue to have enough snow to actually catch people’s attention, even though I am tired of hearing about the “Snowpocolypse”.
Unlike a lot of people in our area, I didn’t lose power when we got hit with the storm, which may be the key to why I enjoyed it so much. However, even if I did lose power, it would’ve given me some incentive to go outside and enjoy what probably isn’t going to happen for another 20 years. The only thing I didn’t absolutely love about the wintery downpour was that my house was basically a soup kitchen for all my sister’s friends who lost power.
I finally got a little taste of what it’s going to be like when I move to Montana later in life and I’m sold. Maybe I’m just weird or maybe I just haven’t grown out of the childhood obsession with the winter season, but I wish we would get this kind of snow every year.
SHE SAID
Snow days are usually days of celebration for students. It means no waking up early to the sound of an annoying alarm clock. It means no quick granola bar breakfast, no sharing a packed bus with that kid who’s a “morning person.” Snow days are like free tickets out of school, and the first few were great. But seriously, enough is enough.
I’m tired of looking out the window and seeing white. I’m tired of walking down my steps and bracing myself for a slip on the ice. I’m tired of walking the dogs and coming back inside with chills and wet feet. I want to see some green. When I walk in the yard, I want to be walking on grass, not a slushy, snowy blanket.
At first the huge snow storm was great. I got plenty of days to sleep in and relax……until the power went out. Then we were hit with another storm, giving us a nice icy mix of snowflakes and slick roads. Unfortunately, all that stuff stuck around. Yes, days off from school were needed and appreciated, but I actually started looking forward to coming back. That should be enough evidence that this snow has become a nuisance instead of relief; so, Jack Frost, get it together.
Snowball fights are fun, and making igloos are great, but too much of a good thing can be bad. Yes, I love snow and all it has to offer, but I don’t want a sour taste in my mouth every time someone mentions snow just because it has come in excess this season. Why must these snowy days linger on? I want to see sunny skies and temperatures above 50 degrees. Let’s call it quits and move on to those sunny, snowless days.
