Len Carlson, the new Girls Varsity Soccer coach at Spotsylvania High School, is no stranger to coaching or playing the game. Carlson has been coaching soccer and basketball for six years. His combined record is 75 wins – 8 losses.
He is no stranger to playing sports either. In high school, Carlson enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, football, and soccer. He also played basketball for a small local college. He currently plays wide receiver on a semi-professional football team, the Northern Neck Riverman. “I try to take the drills and techniques that I liked doing in high school and incorporate it into our workouts,” said Carlson.
He led off-season conditioning from November till the middle of February. He also encouraged the girls to start eating right and exercising so they would be ready for the season. Carlson commented, “I really like the talent and motivation of the girls trying out, but I would like to see more freshman so we can build up our program for future seasons.”
Carlson said, “I really like the athletic program at Spotsylvania High School. I really like the student athletes. I would like to see coaches stay at a sport for a while and build up the program.”
Carlson is also very excited about taking over the girls soccer program. “I am very pleased with the talent we have trying out and expect to improve on last year’s record. I expect to have a winning record and see growth in the whole program.
