Many athletes are overlooked here at Spotsy due to the school’s reputation. Despite her small size, Junior Kelsey Link has big dreams of making an impact.
Link has been playing field hockey for ten years; she’s played for the school and on travel teams. Kelsey has visited many states with her travel team, Typhoon, including California, Florida, and many others. Link goes to California every November to play in the National Field Hockey Festival, and her team is known to come out on top. In February, Kelsey visited Florida for Disney’s Field Hockey Showcase where her team placed second in their pool and finished one goal short of making it into the championships.
Over her years of playing, Link has learned many things about the game of field hockey and improved her level of playing. Kelsey said, “I love learning new tricks and playing teams from all over the country.”
Her favorite field hockey memories are getting first in their pool at Festival and when she received first team district honors. Throughout her years of playing Kelsey said, “I learned that if you train hard in the off-season and work hard at practice, it will really pay off in the end.”
Senior Chelsea Mann said, “Working with Kelsey has taught me a lot about having the right mentality for playing field hockey and how important it is to give it your all until the final whistle.”
“My role model on the USA Olympic Field Hockey team is definitely Kate “Tiki” Barber. She’s their captain and she really is a talented player. Playing with her in the future would be such an honor,” Link said. Kelsey has big dreams to one day play in the Olympics for field hockey.
