Despite the six inches of snow that still covers the many playing fields, spring sports started right on schedule. Track, soccer, tennis, baseball, and softball are all underway regardless of the muddy, snowy, slushy conditions.
The majority of the teams are holding tryouts in the gym, while others are braving the nasty wetness and chilly weather outside. Baseball and softball are utilizing their indoor batting cage in the auxiliary gym and doing a bit of running and throwing in the bus parking lot. Soccer is also taking advantage of the now clear parking lots for practice. The girls tennis team is stuck inside the gym and weight room with everyone else as they eagerly await clear courts. The only sport that is in good shape is the track team as most of the track is clear and running can begin. Field events, however, would resemble a mud bath.
The recent stretch of warmer weather brings hope to clear fields and real practices, but with a prediction of snow again on March 3, the odds of teams having their scheduled scrimmages the first week in March is remote. However, as they say in showbiz, “The show must go on!”
