The large amount of snow was a disappointment to the winter athletes.

The recent snowfall has been difficult on everyone, but one group particularly affected has been the winter athletes.

During the aftermath of the storm when school and games seemed to be possibilities, our athletic director, Mr. Herndon, was working to reschedule the games and meets that had been lost.  “There were some games that I had to reschedule four times,” commented Herndon.

People have wondered how the snow affected the outcome of the season. Basketball missed five of their games, wrestling missed one meet and the district tournament, and swimming missed two swim meets. The games ended up not being rescheduled at all because there was a certain deadline before districts that just couldn’t be met.

Wrestling seemed to have the biggest problem because they went straight to the regional tournament and missed districts. Basketball’s missed games had a huge impact on their overall standings for the 2010 winter season. When school is canceled, there is no practice. By the time that school resumed in February, athletes had missed two weeks of practice before major district and regional championships.

The weather didn’t only have an impact on our school; all of the high schools in our area were in the same predicament. Even though this was not the best season Mr. Herndon was optimistic, “You’ve just gotta roll with the punches and hope that spring clears up.”
