Students at Spotsylvania High School are often involved in more than one sport, but what about those who are just involved in a fall or winter sport. What are the off-season athletes doing to keep in shape for next season?

Most athletes know that being a high-school athlete is a year round commitment. It is very important to be ready for the upcoming season. Confidence in yourself as a person and an athlete will show from beginning to end.

Showing up to try outs prepared and ready for a challenge is what the coaches look for. Being out of shape will have the coaches’ doubting your abilities to do well.

“Strength plays a huge part in every sport, and it is so easy to lose what you have worked for over the past season,” said Junior Molly Malloy. Therefore building your muscles and strengthening your body will pay off when next season rolls around.

“I can’t tell you how important it is to be conditioned when the season starts off. We sometimes get a group of people together and just exercise; it’s fun,” expressed Junior Megan Charles.

Spotsylvania’s varsity field hockey coach, Regina Baker, has said that it’s not always about the skill level, it’s about how conditioned you are. If you want to have more energy, last longer, think faster, and recover quicker, having an off-season work out will benefit you in the long run.
