Spring is here and allergies are a big problem that will be coming up in the next week or so. Everything from trees to flowers are beginning to bloom, but the warm weather and flowers are accompanied by the unwelcome pollen, bees, and poison ivy.
Ms. Lowery, the nurse here at Spotsylvania High School, suggests watching out and taking medicine such as Clarinex, Allegra, and Zyrtec. Also, nurse Lowery says bees are now out and if you get stung, epi pens and Benadryl will definitely help the swollen area.
According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, the most common allergy is rhinitis, also known as “hay fever,” which is an irritation of the nose that affects over 40 million people in the United States. Up to 40% of students have allergic rhinitis, and they miss millions of school days each and every year because of it. Symptoms of rhinitis are nasal congestion, sneezing, mucous build-up, and tearing eyes. This is all usually seasonal but most frequent in the springtime. To help ease these symptoms, pharmacists and doctors recommend over-the-counter prescriptions to help.
