Caroline Sorrell

Hey! My name is Caroline Sorrell. I’m a winter baby, born on Februaury 13, 1997. I go to Spotsylvania High School as a freshman. I have a brother and two sisters that I could not live without. I love to play softball and hang out with my friends. I plan to go to college one day and have a very good, adventurous life.

My family means everything to me. I would say my family is pretty close. I live with my mom and dad, brother, and two sisters. My sisters’ are 20 and 18 and I love them very much. My little brother is 11 and he is wild. He gets on my nerves sometimes but I love him, too. My mom and dad are very good to all of us and they do everything in their power for us to have a good life. I don’t know what I’d do without my family, and I’m very blessed to have them.

I love sports! In middle school, I played basketball, volleyball and softball. I enjoyed playing all of them and being a part of those teams. Softball is definitely my favorite sport, though. I play competitively most of the year and enjoy it so much. Sometimes, it’s a hassle to do school and travel sports while keeping up with my academics. But for the most part, I think I balance them pretty well.

I don’t love school but I don’t hate it either. I take all advanced classes, including one AP course. I try to apply myself and do all my work to my best ability because I know it will pay off in the long run. I definitely plan to attend college so I can get a job I look forward to going to every day. I have no clue what I want to do or be, but for now I just work hard in school and try to stay focused.

My friends are my life. Without them I’d go crazy. They are my support and I know I can always turn to them when I need help or are struggling with something. Not all my friends have the same interests or likes as me but I think that kinda balances us out and brings us closer. I couldn’t ask for better friends and I hope we stick together as we grow up.

Miranda Turner

Hey! My name is Miranda. I am 15 years old and a freshman here at Spotsy.

I enjoy playing sports, especially soccer. I am a goalkeeper, and many people are shocked when they find that out knowing that I am generally a quiet, keep-to-myself kind of person.

Being in advanced classes, I am still an A/B student who always completes their work and enjoys going to school. I dedicate a lot of my time to my school work with studying every night and completing all my homework. Many consider me a well rounded person.

I have received numerous awards for academics, sports, art, as well as just being an overall good person. The award that I am most proud of is my Daughters of the American Revolution award (DAR). Only one person out of their entire school has the honor to receive this award. I was also given the honor of being the former Vice President for NJHS at Post Oak Middle.

I also enjoy serving my community. My mom works with the special needs children at Smith Station Elementary, and in the summer when she works the summer school program, I go with her and help with the special needs children in the class. I have also currently volunteered my time to help coach my younger brothers’ basketball team.

Many people think I’m weird because my favorite music artist is Elvis Presley, but I enjoy all the oldies music. I don’t like the modern day rap and hip hop stuff. Also, my favorite TV show is I Love Lucy, but I like the Golden Girls just as much because my favorite actress/comedian is Betty White. I know I don’t sound like you typical teenager, but surprisingly I do like to watch Jersey Shore.

I do have plans for my future. After I graduate high school, I plan to continue my education in college, and then becoming a Special Investigations Officer for the United States Air Force. Once I retire from the Air Force I eventually want to become a politician and run for governor or even a senator then work my way up to run for president.

Tiara Parsons

Hey! My name is Tiara Parsons, and I am a 10th grader at Spotsylvania High School. I’m currently a Journalism 1 reporter, but I intend to take this class for the remainder of high school.

I’m very outgoing, chill and I give everyone the same amount of respect as long as I’m receiving the same back from you. I love to hang with my friends and I’m constantly cracking jokes. I am very distinct and I’m not one to try and fit in with the “crowd.”

I feel that life is about taking care of one’s responsibilities and making something of yourself, but you also need to enjoy yourself and have fun in the process of making things happen and I’m doing just that. It’s very important to be responsible and take care of what needs to be done, but don’t lose yourself when trying to do that. One of my strong beliefs is that nothing in this world is handed to you. If you want something, you’ve got to work for it and anything short of being the best you can be is unacceptable. I want to succeed at everything I do.

When I graduate I plan on attending college in Richmond at VCU, and I will be earning my associate’s degree in Applied Science in Nursing. My biggest goal is to graduate from college and go work at a children’s hospital to help children with cancer.

My family members are my biggest supporters in my life. Family is really important to me and I don’t know where I’d be without them. They’ve taught me so much and the wisdom that they share with me is something I can pass on to someone else someday.

I plan on moving to New York City one day! I want to shop and just have fun. I’ve lived in the country for about 16 years now. I think it’s time to see something new. I love to travel and so far I’ve been to Nassau (Bahamas), New York City, Florida, Louisiana and Walt Disney’s private island reserved for Disney cruise ships.

My first story ever was published on to the Knight Times website in December. I think seeing my story on there made me more confident and it made me want to keep writing more stories for the website. At the end of the day I always remember… love live life, proceed, progress.

Meghan Garrett

I am a freshman at Spotsylvania High School and this is my first year of journalism.

Being new to high school is difficult. You have to make new friends, do more homework and handle a lot more responsibility. My hobbies are cheerleading, hanging out with friends and family, church and going shopping. I’m a very outgoing girl and easy to get along with.

One of the things I love to do is write. I think it’s a way to express your feelings towards someone or even a way to entertain. I have no journalistic background or writing besides school, but I’m very fond of it which is why I took journalism. My mom loves to write and in fact she wants to write a book, so I think I might get some of that from her. I was even thinking about becoming an author when I get older, but I still have a little while to think about it.

The reason I took journalism is because I love to write. To be honest, I thought it would be pretty easy at  first but turns out it’s not at all. Writing as if you were writing in the newspaper is definitely a challenge compared to if you were just writing a plane ol’ story. I do like writing as a reporter, but if I was to become a writer when I get older it wouldn’t be in this field of writing. I do love reading all the story’s in the newspapers though, it keeps me caught up in current events.

When I grow up I’ve really wanted to get accepted into the air force academy. I want to graduate college there and then become an officer in the air force. It is very hard to get accepted in the academy. The academy is in Colorado, so it’s out of state and you need to have the grades. I want to get into the air force because I have family that was in it and just all the stuff and stories I’ve seen and heard about it is so interesting to me. I’m not quite sure what exactly I want to be in the air force, I just know definitely not a pilot because that would be scary!

I love being with my family and friends. I love going on adventures, vacations or just hanging out at home with them. I have my best friends over all the time because they’re basically my family. Any time I can get to spend quality time with my family I will take it because nobody is promised tomorrow.

Mariah Woodward

So I’m Mariah, and I’m going to tell you a little something something about myself.

I am fresh meat at Spotsylvania High School. Yeah it’s some doo do,o but it’s all good. I actually like this high school life. There is more freedom, and you can basically do what you want kind of.

The only thing that really blows is that this school isn’t where I fit in. I fit in with the city people basically. I am not down with the country folk. I mean yeah, I live in the country but I really don’t want to.

Yeah, I’m a Scorpio; I was born in the 90’s. 1996 to be exact. My 15 years on earth have been peachy. I’m a pretty outgoing person; people tell me I’m funny. I personally think I’m hysterical. I love to make people laugh, that’s my thing. Can you dig it?

Well, yeah, I’m actually pretty chill. I like to hang with my friends and have a good time. I’m always in a good mood; cause its nonsense to waste a perfectly good day being a “Debbie downer”. You won’t catch me being stale or anything, unless it’s a bad day and some broad messed it up. I’m always dancing somewhere or laughing. I love to dance; when a song that I like comes on I start to dance. It puts me in a better mood, just having fun is great.

It is actually really easy for me to get entertained. I always make the littlest things interesting. Like I could be just chilling with some friends and we all could be having a really boring time. But I will come and do something or say something ignorant. Just to make everyone laugh.

Another thing I love to do is eat, I love food so much. If I could, I would eat all day. My favorite food is macaroni and cheese, strawberries, chocolate, mashed potatoes, french fries, cheeseburgers, chicken and watermelon. But out all of them my favorite is chocolate covered strawberries. Oh my gosh! I could eat those all day. They are SO good; the chocolate I use is Nutella because that is my favorite kind. And I use regular strawberries.

So yeah, that’s technically the main things in my life. Word to your mother.

Faith Stephens

Yooooooo, the name is Faith Marie Stephens. I walk the halls of Spotsylvania High as freshmeat. I’m in Journalism 1 right now. Classification is a big thing in high school, I don’t classify myself as one specific thing. I’m extremely outgoing, honest (ask anyone), funny, and not the most athletic.

Just like every teenager, I love my cell phone and Facebook a lot. Those are the two things I’m doing in a majority of my time outside of school. It’s a really bad habit that I have. Thank godness for unlimited texting.

At Spotsy, there are a lot of different groups of people. I go to the “southern” school of the county. I do talk to the “rednecks”,  but I don’t feel the need to wear camoflauge. I like my American Eagle clothes and Vans just fine.

My friends are a huge part of my life. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today. They are always there for me, just like I am for them, and they are drama free, which is a good thing in a friendship. Family has an even bigger impact of my life. My mom is my best friend, no joke, I tell her almost everything, and most of the time she understands. Steven and Zack, my two step-brothers are pretty great too, the best ones I could possibly ever ask for.

Four-wheeling is something I enjoy doing in my spare time. Sometimes dirt doesn’t hurt. In the springtime and early summer, I go kayaking at Hunting Run Reservoir, and this year I’m going out onto the river.

I’m not the most athletic person out there. I’m actually horrible at soccer, yet good at field hockey, which I might play next year. I did Tae-Kwon-Do for seven years, so my life was really tied up with that. I made it up to black belt second dan (I usually don’t tell people, so, surprise!)

In middle school I took orchestra. I played the violin for three years, but this year I stopped. It was so much fun, still knowing how to play is a great feeling. In 2011, I picked up on learning guitar, and I still have a lot to work on, it just takes time. My dad plays guitar, so that helps a lot.

Mrs. Cerrillo said not to talk too much about food, but I’m a teenager, it’s something I love. Eating is one of my favorite things to do. But, somehow I manage to keep a healthy weight, which I’m thankful for. I have somewhat of a sweet tooth. Ice cream/frozen yogurt is some of the best stuff on Earth. Sweet Frog is the “stuff.”

Call me a little “church girl”, but God is my hero. I believe he has a plan for every person out there. He’s the one guy, who will never hurt a girl. God and his son always have a place in my heart. Enough said.

Sarah Colon

What up doe? My name is Sarah. I’m 16 years old. I have a good out look on life and I just like to have fun. There are many unexpected qualities about me that only a few people know.

I just moved here in the beginning of the year. So far, Spotsy is an OK school and some of these people can be mad chill. I’m usually the loudest person in a group when I’m with friends or whom ever unless I feel its unnecessary to talk. So you might see one side of me and not expect the other side to pop out.

The things that I enjoy in school is, well, only really lunch. I’m really a good student even though no one expects me to be. I keep up my grades and do very well in certain subjects and bad in others, but even so I still try. One class that I usually do pretty well in is English. I love to write just because it comes naturally to me. The one class I could easily fail at miserably if I didn’t constantly keep trying is math. Who ever created such a thing as math can play in traffic.

My life out of school is another thing. I love to hang out with my sister, friends, and just good people in general. All my close friends see me as the funny/reliable friend that is always there for them. And yes, of course there is drama. Kinda have to get over it when you are in high school. If they gossip with you, you better believe they will gossip about you. That’s my motto, and it has worked with me so far. Even though that might be true, I still love my friends and I have a select few that I trust completely and that keep me grounded.

There is obviously much more about me, but that pretty much sums it up for this short little bio. So yupp im sarah colon, 16 years old, fun to be around, funny at my good times, and I could be your really good friend or possibly that one girl you hate. Either way “it happens.” ;]

Katelynn Smith

Ayee! The name I was born with is Katelynn Smith. I’m a freshie at Spotsylvania High School. I opened my brown eyes on June 12th, 1997. My birthday is special to me a little more than others because it’s my dad’s birthday, too.

I took Journalism for the first time this year because I adore writing. I don’t know what I’d do without it. I write to vent out my problems instead of taking them out on everyone. I love writing stories about my own life problems, just using different names so if anyone gets into them, they don’t think it’s about me. I’m also getting interested in photography.

I have a little brother, Caleb, who goes to Post Oak Middle School. He is in eighth grade and can get really annoying at times. Of course we fight, but he’s still my brother and I love him. I love my parents. We fight a lot too, but when worst comes to worst, I know they’ll always be there.

I’m not a very athletic person. I get outside a lot and play soccer and football with my brother and run around with my golden retriever, Ozzy, but I only actually play one sport. I play second and third base in softball, and I have so much fun playing it.

Call me nerdy, or dorky, but I love playing video games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops is where it’s at. Another reason to call me dorky or nerdy is because I get somewhat good grades, and I’m in all advanced classes.

I don’t think I could live without music. When I’m upset, happy, mad, sad, or just hanging with friends, I have my stereo on. When I get home in the afternoons, I get a snack and go to my room and hit that on button to my stereo.

I have the iPhone, and I have no idea what I would do without it. I am texting about two-thirds of the time I’m at home.

I lived in Tennessee for three years, and I would do anything to go back. When I graduate high school, I am determined on going to college and moving to Tennessee.

I think I have an addiction to Facebook and Tumblr. I am on those websites all the time, it’s like a drug.

I hate being involved in drama. It’s a complete waste of time to fight and then make up again. Sometimes you just can’t hold it in anymore and you just pop. I do that too, but only every once in a while. And I absolutely can’t stand when my friends try to get me involved in their drama.

I do love my life. At times, I may second guess myself, but I always come out with a positive view of things. My family and my friends, mean everything to me.

Heather Mills

I was born in Maryland, and I am fifteen-years-old.

I have a twin brother. Even though we are just minutes apart, he was born on a different day. I was born on Nov. 1, and he was born Oct. 31.

I like to try new things and see new things. I also play soccer, cheerlead, watch movies, hang with my friends, and go to the beach. I love to do crazy things when I’m with my best friends.

I use to dance, paint, horseback ride, karate, and baseball. I did competitions in dance and stayed in it till I was eight. I showed horses for a few years and only got to show five times.

In karate, I accomplished a goal that I had when I was little and had just started karate. I wanted to give it up so badly once I was a brown belt (four belts before black belt) and thanks to my parents support I stayed with it and now I can say I am a black belt. My brother and I were the youngest kids to get a black belt in my Master’s business. I was nine years old when I got my black belt. I went through a lot of bruises then, I broke many boards then. I had received a picture frame and a honor stick that had a lot of different symbols describing what I had done in karate for all the years I was there. I had to fight boys that were my age and I beat a lot of them. That is how I am a black belt.

I met my best friend in dance when I was three-years-old. We are still best friends and we hang out at least twice a month. Her name is Stephanie. We love going to the beach together, and we have experienced going everywhere together. When we painted and horseback rode, we did that to try something new, and we loved it.

This is just a little information about me. It has more information about what I like to do and have done. Hope you enjoyed learning something about me.

Lyndsey Moreland

I love playing sports. I also like to study school related thing like architecture and geography. I also have other interest like photography. One of the only things that matters to me other than soccer and family is succeeding in school. I would love to play soccer in college but having an educational plan would be fine.

I’ve always enjoyed playing sports.  Sports and athletics have always been my thing, because I have the will to win and to work hard to succeed. The sport that takes up the majority of my time is soccer. I’ve been playing soccer since I was eight years old. I started off playing parks and rec, but as I got better at soccer I decided to try-out for travel soccer. I made the elite team. I currently play for the Richmond Kickers.  We are now one of the best teams in the state. My favorite position is the central midfielder because not only do they control the offense, they can also score just as much as a forward. Soon I will be trying out for my high school team. Hopefully I can make varsity, but I guess I can settle for JV.

Believe it or not I do have interests that are related to school. Even though I’m athletic, I still do like to go to school. I like to study things like architecture, geography and marine biology. Architecture is probably my favorite subject because I like the creative way that people choose to build certain structures.  However, in college I would like to major in marine biology. I feel that this particular subject could lead to good opportunities and fun future jobs.

One of my favorite hobbies is photography. I like taking pictures of everything.  I like taking action shots the most. I have my own camera that I take pictures outside of school.  This year in journalism we are being introduced to using cameras and learning how to take, upload, and edit photos. I am looking forward to next year when I get to take photo journalism, which is basically a whole class dedicated only to taking pictures.

Not only would I like to succeed in soccer, but I would like to succeed in school. I try my best to work hard in every class. I spend just as much time studying as I do practicing. My parents would like to think that school is more important than sports, but the two are just as equally important me.

Jazlyn Aguila

On July 29, 1996, I was born in the state of Florida. I was an emergency C-section. My mom and I almost died. I was born 9 weeks early. I had to stay in the hospital for a couple of week.  When my parents got to take me home they had to be very careful because I was very fragile.

When I started kindergarten I was very shy and didn’t talk to anyone. Further into elementary school I broke out of my shell and became very outgoing. I soon found out that school is not a joke and that I needed to do my best and make sure that I had good grades.

After elementary school I finally made it to middle school. I went to Post Oak Middle School. I was very nervous to go to school. I thought I wasn’t going to know anyone and be a complete loner. Well on the first day I made a bunch of friends. Throughout middle school I got into trouble a lot, but I made a change and became very respectful and didn’t get into trouble as much.

In August, I started high school at Spotsylvania High School. I was beyond nervous; high school was a major step in my life. I had been looking forward to ever since I was in elementary school, but then I started to worry. I was scared that no one would like me. When I entered the school for the first time I saw a bunch of my friends. I went to my first class that day and realized high school isn’t as amazing as I thought it would be. It was just like any other time I had gone to school.

On that first day of school I started to play a sport – field hockey. I thought that it was going to be very hard for me to balance school and a sport. When I went to practice that day I thought I was just going to fail at the sport and get cut from the team. When I saw who was all playing I knew I didn’t have a problem and that I wouldn’t have to worry about anything. All the girls on the team were very helpful and were very nice to me. It was very easy for me to balance school and sports together.

Kirsten Haynes

I have lived in Spotsylvania for my whole life.

Sports is how I relax. I play soccer and field hockey. I try to play my best. The reason I play these sports is because they are aggressive sports, and I can take whatever anger that is in me out.

It also shows the true person that I am. I can be a nice person, but when people make me mad it can be scary.

I have family that lives in England and in Germany. My family is the reason of who I am today. I love my family, and I can always count on them.

I have two brothers. Nicholas is the oldest one and the younger is Logan. They are the reason why I act so strong, they taught me that if someone messes with me in any way that I don’t like, just treat them. Nick is my role model; he goes for what he wants and never lets anyone hurt him in any way. He is on his way to become a paid fire fighter.

I have two dogs. One is a Pekingese and the other is Shichon. The Pekingese is 13 years old, and her name is Lucy. She has been the one animal that I can trust to protect me through anything. She is getting old and has gone deaf, but she still is aware of her surroundings.  The Shichon is 3 years old, and she won’t leave my side. She acts like she is lost, but in the end she is always there. She is protective of me. She is a loving dog, and she loves everyone like there is no tomorrow.

My friends are always the ones I talk to when I am in trouble. They understand me and know how to talk to me and treat me. We often fight over stuff that does not matter, but in the end we forgive each other. My friends often say the only reason they come to my house is for my mother and dogs.

Summer is one of my favorite times of the year. It’s when my family and friends and I all go out on the boat and knee board and go tubing. I love laying out in the sun and being in the Lake Anna water and feeling like everything just goes away.

Spring is the time of the year that I love more than summer. It is the season where my birth month falls and the time for the Easter bunny to come, but the best part is the spring time air with the nice warm cold air all around and beautiful flowers and animals come out to play.

When I graduate high school I am going to try and go to Mary Washington to get a degree to become a sonogram technician. This will take me up to four years to complete, and I am going to stick to it because I know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Becoming a sonogram technician it not just sitting down using an X-ray all day you do more than just that.

This is just about me.

I was born in April of 1997 in California. I then moved to Colorado. After living in Colorado for 9 years, then I moved to Virginia. Now I’ve been living in Virginia for five years.

Ask me for my opinion and it will be completely honest. I’m not afraid to tell you what my thoughts are.

Once you get to know me, I’m really outgoing and will talk to you a lot. I’m always smiling and looking for the good things to be happy about, and not the bad. It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

I have many friends, but I only have a few that I can trust.

Volleyball is a sport I’ve grown to love. I’ve only been playing it for two years, but it’s taught me not to give up and keep trying even though you might not play your best.  I have been always been clumsy. During this year’s volleyball season I dislocated my shoulder twice. Now I’m just recovering from shoulder surgery.

I’m always traveling. Every summer I go somewhere new. This year we are planning to go to Aruba for the second time. When I’m in places like this I get to experience things I wouldn’t think I would ever get to experience. Usually I will go parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, ride in helicopters plus more. I have never traveled to Europe, but hopefully I will soon. I’m hoping to continue traveling as I get older. I find it fascinating and I always learn something new on the trips.

Right now I’m a freshman in Spotsylvania High School, and I’m taking all advanced classes. I hope that taking these types of classes will help me later in life.

This is my first year in Journalism. I’m hoping this will help me write stories better, and I’m hoping to go to photojournalism to get into photography.

When I graduate I’m going to college. I’m hoping to go to Florida University or University of Miami. I want to study to be a marine biologist. I think I would like that job because I’m certified to scuba dive and I like to study the ocean floor. If the plan doesn’t work, I would like to be a criminal investigator. I think it would be cool to go on a crime scene and see what happened.

This is my life story.

Erika Ramirez

Whelp, I’m Erika Ramirez, and I’m a freshman that attends Spotsylvania High School. I’ve been breathing in this world for 14 years. I’m Hispanic because my dad is from Honduras and Black because my mom is black.

I’m going to Honduras and Puerto Rico this summer to see my family. I have a lot of family spread through the world. I have family in Spain, Honduras, North Carolina, Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Washington.

My life is mostly about school, clothes, family, and friends. For me, school is almost my first priority. Ha-Ha, I try my hardest to focus on school, but it doesn’t always work. But I always keep my grades up to mostly A’s and some B’s.

Clothes are the most amazing thing invented. I love all types of clothes. I shop at a lot of different stores. Every chance that I get, I will buy clothes and spend all my money.

Family and friends are very important in my life. My family gets on my nerves every once and a while, but family are people you can always rely on. My friends are the best…they are always there for me when I need them. I can also rely on them.

My favorite sports are softball and cheerleading. I’ve been playing softball for a very long time…since I was seven years old. I play second and right field. Softball is an inspiring sport and I love it!

Another sport that I just started this year in high school was cheerleading. Cheerleading is a very fun. People think cheer is not hard or even difficult, but honestly it really is. Stunting is probably the hardest. Cheerleaders have to lift up girls, throw them, and also catch them. It actually is a lot of work and pain.

My life is full of twist and turns and people I love and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Alexus Harris

August 6, 1997, was the happiest day of my parent’s life because I was born. However, the saddest day of their lives came six years later on August 24, 2003, when I left for kindergarten. I was turning a new page in my life and I was eager to learn.

Though I am only fourteen years old, I hold education at a high value. Even in kindergarten, I knew school was important and realized that hard work resulted in success. In kindergarten I was shy but very outgoing and certainly driven. Though school was a priority, I was no stranger to playing with dolls and enjoying stuffed animals in my spare time.

In the summer of 2004, we went on vacation, and returned to busted water pipes in our house. Then a year later I received the news of our upcoming move. I cried my eyes out, but once I got to our destination, I knew everything would be okay. I fit in just fine and loved it.

A year after that, I moved again to a house on a lake and began to love my new environment. The only problem was that I was alone. My new community was filled with older adults I couldn’t relate to. My brother, Brandon, and my sister, Aaliyah, were my only company I had.

After learning of my discontent, my dad went out and bought a farm with 117 acres. He also bought cows, horses, a four-wheeler and dirt bikes which made life all the more interesting. After a couple months we decided to build a house where my dad would be in charge of the construction. After much time and labor, our house was finished; I had my own bathroom and bedroom. Even today, I still enjoy my dad’s creation.

Over the years, my passion for learning continued to grow and I soon realized that school wasn’t just about the books; sports can make my experience in middle school even more memorable and interesting. I played lots of sports in middle school like volleyball and track. During the spring of 8th grade year, I tried out for fall cheer.

In August of 2011, I began high school. So far, my experiences are going well; I have plenty of friends and tons to do. I will admit, having my brother around made the jump from middle school to high school a lot easier. Most people knew my name because of him, but I still had a chance to find my own passions, like cheer.

My morals are what guide me through life and my desire to learn is what keeps me going. I plan on attending a prestigious college and then going to medical school with the intent of becoming a doctor. Even though nothing is certain, I would like to work with children.

My ethnicity is mixed with black and white.  I have brown eyes with curly brown hair. I am a freshman at Spotsylvania High school. I was born on June 8, 1997, in North Carolina, which is a very ghetto place so my mom decided to move. At the age of two I moved to Spotsylvania, Virginia. I went to Livingston Elementary School. I started my education with pre-school and I am going to finish my education all the way through 12thgrade. Spotsylvania High School’s mascot is a Knight.

Being a freshman is different from being an eighth grader. You aren’t the biggest kids anymore. I didn’t know where lots of the things are in the school and have to ask others where stuff is. High school is a lot bigger than middle school and there is a lot more classes. Coming from Post Oak Middle School to Spotsylvania is a huge change for me. So far I am getting good grades so I will hopefully pass 9th grade.

Virginia is a big place. Lots of the people that live here hunt. I have only gone hunting once and I killed a bird with a .22 rifle. I went again later but I didn’t see anymore animals.

I am a confident person, but at times I am not very sure of myself. I am very patriotic. I am a 15-year-old freshman; I am involved in scouting, drill, my church’s youth group, and other things.

I am in JROTC, which is where I am involved in drill. Since I’ve started school, my confidence has gone up, mostly because of JROTC. I love hanging out with my friends during flex and doing community service. My friends call me the “Energizer Bunny” because I am very energetic. Gym class is when I get out all my energy.

The river is one of my relaxing places. Throughout the year, my family and I go down to my great grandmother’s house, right by the little Wicomico River off of the Chesapeake Bay. When I say my family, I mean like my whole family. My dad, my older brother sometimes, and I, my dad’s two brothers and their families. His two brothers each have two kids and a wife. My cousins and I go play in the river, and we jump off the dock. We also go crabbing and fishing, which is delicious when you eat them.

During the summer I play softball and go out on some trips. I’ve been playing softball for five years now.

Water and hiking leads up to camping. I like to camp. I get to hang out with my friends and spend time with nature. Kayaking is another thing that I love to do because I love the rapids.

I like to play football with my cousins. My favorite team is the Patriots, but I also favor the Green Bay Packers. My favorite baseball team is the Boston Red Sox.

Chips and cards. I love to play poker. I am good at bluffing. I play with my dad and my brother mostly and sometimes with my friends. Rummy and blackjack are two other games that I love. I could play rummy for hours.

I love riding my bike. It’s a BMX trick bike so it’s small. Riding it into ditches and flying off is so much fun.

In the future I a career as either a photographer / videographer or go into the military. And that sums up part of my life.

Meghan Adams

I’m 14 years old, and I go to Spotsylvania High School. I love cute things and animals. This is my first year working with journalism and I’m very happy to be in this class. Taking this class seemed interesting to me because mostly it’s all about people, and I really love being around them. There are so many different types of people and stories about their lives that it makes everything so fun to figure out.

The types of stories I love to write are about daily lives of people that include very difficult jobs or intricate life styles. So many people have stories that they would love to share and the people in journalism would love to find out. I’m sure; I’m one of them.

I’m into photography, as well, because of the beauty photographers’ show. They know how to capture the best pictures in the world and create the most beautiful designs to seize the reader’s attention; and they’re still able to inspire others with the same interests.

In reality, I don’t believe I have anything unique about myself. My whole life pretty much revolves around the happiness of everyone around me. I seem to have this really unhealthy need to make everyone happy. I can’t stand seeing a person alone or crying, and I just have to help them. The more I help, the more people trust me and then I can keep them happy for as long as they want me too. So many people tell me it’s impossible, but it’s what makes me happy. I like to see smiles on everyone’s face because it reminds me that life will get harder and some people may not be able to experience this kind of happiness with each other again. You could call it benevolence.

The thing I’m most passionate about is pretty much anything I feel I need to set my mind too. If I can get myself to believe something is important enough, I will try my best to complete it thoroughly. Sooner or later, I’m sure I will find something I love most and feel most passionate about, but for now I have decided to keep looking. I love many things but there isn’t anything that I want to do for the rest of my life, so I want to treasure what I have now before I make any big decisions.

Hunter Harris

Hello, everyone! My name is Hunter C. Harris. You can call me Double H, you can call me HCH, you can call me Mr. Harris, and you can even call me Christian Harris. But you don’t have to call me Hunter!

I’m 17 years old and a senior at good old Spotsylvania High School. I’m in a journalism class with about 10 freshmen and only one other senior – Taylor Dunavant, the editor-in-chief. Journalism is pretty great – we get to use a laptop every class. Unlike most students, I tend to add a little humor to the majority of my stories (a little inspiration I picked up from MAD Magazine). Mrs. Cerillo is very nice, too – though I don’t know how she’s able to work with everyone talking all at once.

I live in a double-wide trailer (no, this does not make me a redneck!) with my mom and dad. I have two dogs – Abby, my 7-year old Jack Russell Terrier; and Ozzy, my 2-year old Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle mix).

Another fact about me is that I’m a very skilled writer. I’m currently writing a book titled “The Jackal”. It’s about a boy who, after getting pushed too far, goes on a killing spree, seeking revenge on his bullies. It also has a twist ending – but you’ll actually have to read it in order to find out what it is.

Changing the subject, it’s been a year since I’ve owned an Xbox 360. This year, I’m finally old enough to play M-rated games. So, reasonably, I went on a major shopping spree at GameStop, buying all the games I missed out on years before. Here is a list of my favorite games:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (My favorite game of all time!)
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • …Basically anything that has “Zelda” in the title.
  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Bioshock (you can sic a swarm of bees on people!)
  • Assassin’s Creed II (the first one isn’t all that great)
  • Red Dead Redemption
  • (Super) Street Fighter IV
  • Mortal Kombat (the new one)
  • Super Mario Galaxy

As you can tell, I’m a pretty hardcore gamer. I re-subscribe to Game Informer every time I get a last-minute notice.

Aside from games, however, there are quite a few movies I like, as well. By the way, my favorite actor is Arnold Schwarzenegger. I still like him even after that whole ordeal about his “secret son;” he had him with his housekeeper and didn’t tell his wife about it for fourteen years (he was living the life of one of his movies, if you can guess which one it is). Anyway, this is a list of my favorite movies:

  • True Lies
  • Terminators 1 and 2 – the 3rd one is…OK, I guess.
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • The Back to the Future trilogy
  • Home Alone (my favorite holiday movie, anyway)
  • Halloween (not the Rob Zombie one)
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  • Liar, Liar
  • Toy Story (and I’m not afraid to admit it)

Well, that’s about it for me. Mrs. Cerillo wanted this to be at least 400 words, so I’d better stop.

Dana Everly’s bubbly personality always has people smiling. She’s always there if you need help. She has a funny side and a serious side. Dana’s writing abilities are incredible. This is her second year in journalism and she’s getting smarter as we speak. She’s very serious about her newspaper stories. She is also a Spotsylvania High sideline and competition cheerleader. She represents her school very well and always has good spirit. She LOVES Justin Bieber (obsessed). She even has a cardboard cutout of him. Dana is always smiling and lifting people’s moods. Don’t let her never-ending smile fool you because she’s not the most patient person. She doesn’t like math or eating pigs. She enjoys playing with her cats and her dogs. Dana is an awesome fun loving person.
