The fall season brings many different fun traditions but the current popularity of everything pumpkin  has consumed the media. We have pumpkin bread, muffins, coffee, candy, decorations, lattes, clothing, pancakes and even granola bars. Virginians have a couple months to get all their pumpkin in before cold winter weather comes soon.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Cook Time: 55 mins

Ready In: 1 hr. 10 mins.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
  • 1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND(R) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Whisk pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, spices and salt in medium bowl until smooth. Pour into crust. Bake 15 minutes.
  2. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F and continue baking 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted 1 inch from crust comes out clean. Cool. Garnish as desired. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes have become more and more popular throughout the year. They are especially popular when Starbucks comes out with them for a short period during the fall. “I like pumpkin lattes but pumpkin pies creep me out,” SHS senior Abby Harris says. You do not have to just get your latte from Wawa or Starbucks why not try and make a homemade one.  

Easy Pumpkin Spice Latte

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons half-and-half
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 cup coffee
  • 1 tablespoon whipped cream topping, or to taste (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix half-and-half, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice together in a coffee mug. Pour coffee into mug; stir to blend.
  2. Heat in microwave until hot, about 15 seconds. Top with whipped cream.

Pumpkin can make some very delicious foods and drinks but what about fun crafts? There are lots of different ideas to take a pumpkin and make it into a fun and cute craft. You can always take the traditional route and carve a pumpkin. Here is an idea to shy away from the mess of carving out a pumpkin and having to deal with the seeds.

Melted Crayon Pumpkin Craft

Materials

  • Pumpkin (can be white)
  • Blow Drier
  • Crayons
  • Glue

Directions

  • Peel all the paper off the crayons that you chose
  • Glue your crayons to the top ring of your pumpkin
  • Gently blow the crayons until they begin to drip down the pumpkin
  • Continue to heat the crayons until the pumpkin has as much color as you want
